Situated next to Paloma Park in Benalmadena Costa is one of the Costa del Sol’s most popular places for a family day out. Selwo Marina is quite a compact park housing a variety of marine creatures including penguins from the Antarctic, dolphins from the Caribbean Sea, wildlife from the Amazon rain forest and exotic birds.
When you visit Selwo Marina, you will be given a map of the park that also tells you when the animal shows take place throughout the day. The biggest highlight of these shows is definitely the dolphin display. This takes part in the large salt water pool with terraced seating where you can enjoy watching the skills of these amazing, sociable creatures.
Another display that takes part in the dolphinarium is the sea lion show. The star of this show is most certainly a large male sea lion called Bruno. You will see him perform an array of tricks including spinning hula hoops, balancing a ball on his nose and his very popular disco dancing.
After the dolphin and sea lion shows you can have your photo taken beside these amazing creatures!
The other end of park is where the penguins live in Ice Island. To replicate the penguins natural environment, the temperature and light in Ice Island is strictly regulated.
Four species of penguins live at Selwo: Gentoo, Rockhoppers, Magellanic and the giant King Penguin who can grow up to a metre in height. The best time to visit the penguins is at feeding time when their keeper gives a talk about them in English and Spanish.
Another section of the park is the Amazonian exhibition where you can see fish, terrapins, frogs and snakes.
Selwo also has a fun adventure playground for the children, where they can burn off more energy using the climbing frame, slides and walkways.
Next to the playground is a lake with flamingo’s, cormorants and pelicans.
If you fancy a bite to eat you can choose between the fast-food outlet serving burgers and chips or relax in the air-conditioned restaurant and enjoy a full 3-course menu.
On site there is also ice cream stalls and for a spot of shopping, so why not pop into the small gift shop while you are there.
