On the 26th June 2012, Malaga airport will have two runways which will not only help to bring it in line with the other major Spanish airports but also help to open up the Costa del Sol to even more destinations.
Once the new runway is fully operational, Malaga will be right up there with the other major airports in Spain including Barajas (Madrid), El Prat (Barcelona), Gran Canaria and Palma de Mallorca.
After almost 5 years of planning and a total spend of 370 million Euro’s, the new runway will be set to receive around 72 arrivals and departures each hour or approximately 9,500 passengers.
This will almost double the capacity overnight of Malaga airport which is the Costa del Sol’s main airport handling around 14 million visitors each year.
Minister of development Ana Pastor and president of AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea), José Manuel Vargas, will be conducting the inauguration of the new runway.
