Just on the edge of the pretty village of Benalmadena Pueblo you will find the colourful world of the Mariposario de Benalmadena - butterfly Park. It is open every day of the week from 10am - 6pm (not closed for siesta) and houses more than 1,500 butterflies. Throughout the whole year more than 150 different species from tropical areas all over the world are exhibited here. With each new visit you will find new species to see as their life span is only 2-3 weeks.
The environmental conditions of the park match that of the butterflies natural habitats with the temperature being between 24-29 degrees Celsius with humidity at 80%.
Many of the species reproduce in the park itself, so as well as butterflies you can watch the fascinating stages of their biological cycle, observe their courtship flights and mating and see the cycle from eggs to caterpillars. As new butterflies are born every day in the nursery you wouldn’t want to miss the rare opportunity of seeing how they hatch from the chrysalis, open their wings and take their first flight.
Alongside the butterflies you will find an array of plants that are essential for their life. Each species of butterfly needs a specific plant to lay it’s eggs in. This is called the “Host Plant”. This close relationship between plants and butterflies is a result of millions of years of evolution. It is important that female butterflies find and recognise their host plants among the vast botanical diversity of the tropical forests.
With so many amazing natural sights to see you won’t want to forget your camera. Taking photographs is allowed, including flash photography.
Disabled access is good and small dogs are allowed if carried by their owners and there is also waiting area for larger dogs.

How Do I Get There?
By Car:- Take the Autovia del Mediterraneo A7, Salida (Exit) 217.
By Train:-Take the train to Benalmadena-Arroyo de la Miel station. When you walk out of the train station there is a bus stop for the ‘L2′ bus. You need to take that and get off at the Buddhist Temple (Stupa) The Mariposario de Benalmadena is right next to it.
