If you are making plans to visit the sunny Costa del Sol this year and are looking for something to do aside from spending your day on the beach sunbathing, then why not consider a day or night at the Mijas Horse Racing track “The Hipodrómo”.
Located slightly inland from Fuengirola and Mijas Costa, the Hipodromo represents a great opportunity to experience live horse racing on the Costa del Sol.
But it’s not just about watching horses “running around a track” or losing the shirt off your back! It’s also a fun packed extravaganza, as there are also many bars, restaurants, live entertainment and even a children’s “Rainbow” play centre available during race meetings.
At various other times of the year there are other events held at the Hipodromo including football training, language courses teaching Chinese, Russian and Arabic, rock and roll nights and flamenco dancing to name just a few.
If bargains are what you are after, then the Sunday Market/Car Boot Sale is held at the Hipodromo every Sunday from 9am to 2pm. Entry is free.
Where Is The Hipodromo?
The Hipodromo is located a few minutes inland from the Parque Miramar shopping centre in Fuengirola just off of the N-340 motorway.
When Is The Horse Racing On?
The racing is run at different times of the year. Summer meetings are during the months of June, July and August and mostly run at night from around 10pm. There are also 6 meetings from September through December on a bi-weekly basis. Winter meetings are normally held from 11am with the doors opening at 10am.
How Much Does It Cost?
Entry is very reasonable at only €5 per person but is free for under 18’s and over 65’s.
How To Get There?
If you head for the Parque Miramar shopping centre and follow the road at back up for a few minutes, you will see signs to the track. At B-MET we can provide you with transfers to and from the course for larger groups and can cater for up to 55 people in our fully licensed air conditioned vehicles.
Is There Parking?
Yes, there is free parking for a total of 1,200 vehicles.
What Facilities Are There?
There are many facilities at the Hipodromo including bars, restaurants and a children’s play area. The restaurants serve a mixture of both local and international cuisine. There is also live music played during each race at many of the meetings.
In the summer of 2012, there will also be a new Paddle Centre opening at the Hipodromo.
